Charleston Photography Tours

Are you looking for the best beaches in Charleston? We’ve got all the best spots whether you’re looking for a place to lay your towel and spend a lazy day, or you’re wanting to comb the beach for seashells. We have the answers to your questions regarding Charleston beaches.

Which Charleston Beach is Best?

It truly depends on what you’re looking for. If you want waves, you’ll head to Folly Beach. If you want a slower, quieter, relaxed pace and calmer waters, you’ll want to visit Isle of Palms. If you’re up for an adventure head down to Edisto. But we’ll go into greater detail below. The answer to this question depends on what you’re looking for.

Are There Good Beaches In Charleston?

Actually there are! In fact, we have a wide variety of beaches. If you’re looking for a great place to boogie board and catch some waves you’ll want to head to Folly Beach. Folly beach is a great place to swim. Folly Beach is absolutely one of the most fun places to enjoy an afternoon in the water.

Folly Beach is also a great place to hang out for live music in the evenings, or sit at a nearby bar for drinks or snacks while you’re taking a break from the water.

What Is The Closest Beach To Charleston?

Luckily, you have options. We have three beaches that are all fairly close to the historic district of downtown Charleston. Your choices are Folly Beach (which is 12 miles from downtown), Isle of Palms (13 miles from downtown) or Sullivan’s Island (although this might be our least favorite for swimming).

So which beach is better, Isle of Palms or Folly Beach?

In our opinion they are both exceptional for swimming. But if you have small children, you may want to lean more towards Isle of Palms. Their showers at the County Park are wonderful and convenient. If however you’re looking for waves and excitement, Folly Beach is going to be where you want to go. Did you forget your Boogie Board? No worries! You can pick one up at one of the many shops on Folly Beach.

Best Place To Look For Shells In Charleston:

If you are ready to find some seashells and treasures in the sand, the best spot to go to near Charleston is Folly Beach at low tide. Folly beach does have shells on the beach if you go at the right time (low tide). However if you’re up for a drive, head out to Edisto Beach (about an hour south of Charleston) and you’ll be amazed at all the treasures you’ll find out there at low tide.
